Growing Up Southern

What’s the Big Deal About Being Southern?

I was born in the South, grew up in the South, moved as far away as I could and still be in the continental U.S., came back to the South, left again, moved to the opposite side of the U.S., and then, finally, came back to the South, where, God willing, I will stay.

I am not trying to convince you that the South is great. If you don’t like the South, that’s fine.

But, if you do like the South, then I’m happy you are here. This is a celebration, a party on the internet, a place for me to share some joy, happiness, a few smiles and laughs, a little lagniappe for you. I hope when you leave, you leave with a smile and that you will certainly come back.

What are some things I love about the South…

The best looking men with the best manners – my husband would top the list.

Happy children who know how to use their manners and who do so

Grandma’s sweet iced tea – any grandma can make it, but it seems that it does, in fact, need to be someone’s grandmother

Sultry southern nights

These are just a few to get us started…

About melindamcguirewrites

The young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat. ------ William Faulkner, Nobel Prize Speech, Stockholm, 1950
