A little bit of kindness

Golden Rule – treat others as we want to be treated.

I think there’s another part that we (and by we, I mean ME) forget is that we have to treat ourselves as we want to be treated.

Everyone is different, certainly, but a lot of us are so quick to lose patience with ourselves, give in to the negative soundtracks in our heads, put ourselves not just at the bottom of the list but leave ourselves off the list entirely.

When we (and again, I mean ME) do this all the time, our wells run dry. We don’t have anything left to give back to others, anything left to create with, to share, to use for inspiration.

So, I’m extending a little kindness to myself today, a little down time, a little time reading a book for leisure, a little longer hugging my beautiful family, a little extra bite of chocolate, a little bit of time buying some fall flowers for the house, a little time in a comfy spot with a warm blanket and a hot cup of coffee.

About melindamcguirewrites

The young man or woman writing today has forgotten the problems of the human heart in conflict with itself which alone can make good writing because only that is worth writing about, worth the agony and the sweat. ------ William Faulkner, Nobel Prize Speech, Stockholm, 1950

  1. You are so right to do this, Melinda! Enjoy your day, sweetheart.

  2. You are so on point with this post. Hope your day goes great. I plan to do the same–books, rest, lunch, more rest, read old magazines that have accumulated over the years:-)

  3. Enjoy!! You deserve it!!

  4. Have a day off, the world will still be there tomorrow.

  5. You are so deserving of a little R&R. I hope you had a great day!

  6. You have inspired me consider doing the very same thing. It’s important that we do this for our own sanity.

Thanks, Susan. It was much needed. And, honestly, I think I would do better at everything if I gave myself permission to take a little time off more frequently.
